About The Position

Under general direction, this position is responsible for developing, coordinating, delivering, and assessing training programs for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Local and State-wide staff. The Public Health Educator II coordinates and prioritizes health program presentations and education needs of the community. Essential duties and functions may include developing, evaluating, and coordinating plans for a variety of projects and program activities, training personnel, assisting in developing performance evaluations, writing informational reports, speaking as a city representative before public groups, conducting needs assessments, evaluating programs for effectiveness and accomplishment of goals, evaluating needs assessment data to determine course of action, developing and conducting public information and education programs, and designing visual presentation materials.

Requirements

• Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to health education, nursing or health related field, plus three (3) years of experience in a field related to health education.
• Knowledge of training methods and techniques.
• Knowledge of appropriate community resources for client referral.
• Knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases and the appropriate treatments.
• Knowledge of functions and operations of interrelating departments, divisions and agencies.
• Knowledge of applicable regulatory agency requirements.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing communicable disease control.
• Knowledge of contract language.
• Skill in resolving problems or situations requiring the exercise of good judgment.
• Skill in effective oral and/or written communication.
• Skill in effectively communication and dealing with the public.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City departments, employees and the public.
• Skill in maintaining records.
• Skill in preparing clear and concise written reports.
• Skill in giving public presentations.
• Skill in self-study and in the completion of assigned training.
• Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License.
• External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
