About The Position

The Georgia Department of Public Health is the lead agency entrusted by the people of Georgia to protect lives and promote healthy lifestyles in diverse communities statewide. As a Public Health Educator 1 or 2 within the Sumter County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university.
  • For Health Educator 2: one (1) year of experience in public health education or one (1) year of experience at the lower-level Health Educator 1 (HCP030) or position equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience in the field of HIV/STD.
  • Public Health experience.
  • Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills to complete documentation, monthly reports and data entry.
  • Must be able to effectively interact and establish relationships with clients, medical providers, community partners, and all levels of internal personnel.
  • This position requires the ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Link individuals living with HIV into medical care and other supportive services.
  • Function as the liaison for local medical providers, hospitals, clinics, plasma centers, and other organizations within the 16 counties of the WCHD that refer patients for HIV medical care and support.
  • Capture and report data to State agencies.

  • The use of physical breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their physical goals.
