About The Position

Healthix is the largest public health information exchange (HIE) in New York State, connecting healthcare providers, hospitals, health plans, and community organizations to improve care. The organization is expanding its focus to make health information more actionable and impactful for healthcare providers, community partners, and public health initiatives, aiming to strengthen community partnerships, improve health equity, and support innovative approaches connecting healthcare with community-based services. The Public Health Engagement Partner will represent Healthix externally, cultivate strategic relationships, identify emerging public health needs and partnership opportunities, and translate stakeholder engagement insights into actionable information for Healthix leadership. This role will also support initiatives demonstrating how health information exchange and data capabilities can contribute to public health priorities, population health improvement, and community health outcomes. Success requires prior public health experience, demonstrated relationship-building skills, knowledge of the New York public health landscape, strong critical-thinking and communication skills, and the ability to independently manage external relationships. An existing professional network within New York City and/or Long Island’s public health and healthcare communities is strongly preferred. The position requires regular travel throughout Healthix’s service area and participation in external meetings, conferences, community events, and other public health forums.

Requirements

  • Direct experience working within public health, population health, government health, healthcare, or closely related organizations.
  • Established understanding of the organizations, programs, stakeholders, and public health priorities affecting the communities Healthix serves.
  • Prior public health experience.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building capabilities.
  • Knowledge of the New York public health landscape.
  • Strong critical-thinking and communication skills.
  • Ability to independently develop and manage external relationships.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly to changing needs.

  • Comfortable conducting research and collecting data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to travel regularly throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island.
  • Must be able to attend community meetings and events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Reliable transportation or ability to travel independently within the service area preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • An existing professional network within New York City and/or Long Island’s public health and healthcare communities is strongly preferred.
  • Experience using CRM or contact management systems is a plus.
  • College degree not required. Relevant work or volunteer experience is strongly preferred and may be substituted for formal education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, cultivate, and maintain strategic relationships with public health agencies, healthcare organizations, community-based organizations, advocacy organizations, public health leaders, and other stakeholders across New York City and Long Island.
  • Leverage existing public health knowledge and professional networks to expand Healthix’s visibility and establish relationships with organizations and leaders whose priorities align with Healthix’s public health strategy.
  • Identify public health trends, priorities, programs, and emerging needs that may present opportunities for Healthix collaboration, data initiatives, partnerships, or other strategic engagement.
  • Represent Healthix at public health meetings, coalitions, conferences, community forums, health-related events, and other external engagements.
  • Serve as a key relationship liaison between Healthix and external public health stakeholders, facilitating communication and helping translate stakeholder needs into potential Healthix initiatives.
  • Develop a strong understanding of stakeholder priorities and identify opportunities to connect Healthix’s health information exchange and data capabilities with public health and population health objectives.
  • Maintain organized documentation of stakeholder relationships, engagement activity, opportunities, follow-up actions, and relevant public health intelligence.
  • Provide internal updates and recommendations regarding public health relationships, emerging opportunities, stakeholder needs, and potential areas for strategic engagement.
  • Research and identify relevant community events, forums, and networking opportunities.
  • Coordinate Healthix participation in community and industry events.
  • Assist with planning and execution of Healthix-sponsored events and educational programs.
  • Support recruitment of community partners and stakeholders for Healthix initiatives and collaborative projects.
  • May work evenings and weekends as needed to support outreach activities and events.
  • Conduct research on community health trends, organizations, and emerging issues impacting communities.
  • Gather and organize information about community needs, resources, partnerships, and outreach opportunities.
  • Track engagement activities and prepare reports summarizing findings and community feedback.
  • Collect and maintain data related to community events, stakeholder participation, and outreach outcomes.
  • Maintain and regularly update stakeholder and community partner databases.
  • Manage contact lists and outreach records to ensure accurate information is available for engagement efforts.
  • Track community interactions, event attendance, and partnership activities.
  • Prepare correspondence, event materials, and outreach communications.
  • Assist in soliciting sponsorships, donations, and in-kind contributions for Healthix-sponsored events and programs.
  • Help identify potential community and corporate partners interested in supporting Healthix initiatives.
  • Support donor and sponsor relationship management activities.
