About The Position

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections has the mission of improving the sexual health of all New Yorkers. To achieve this the Bureau provides direct clinic services to people seeking sexual health care, and services to sex partners; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to providers and community groups, conducts research, and develop policies to improve sexual health and wellness. The Bureau of Public Health Clinics-Sexually Transmitted Infections operates 8 Sexual Health clinics throughout New York City (NYC).

The Public Health Adviser-I will be assigned to one of the Bureau's clinics and report directly to the Clinic Manager.

Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences.
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program, performing one or more of the following: interviewing, conducting community investigations, assessing health risks, making referrals, or collecting and analyzing epidemiological data.
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in Qualification Requirement "2" above.
• Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of full-time experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either twelve semester credits as described in "1" above or six months of experience as described in "2" above.
• For certain assignments, satisfactory completion of training in phlebotomy or other necessary procedures is required.
• Certification in HIV counseling may be required for certain other assignments.
• Public Health Advisers are required to have an annual health assessment.

Nice To Haves

• To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, at least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser, Assignment Level I, or at least one additional year of experience as described in Qualification Requirement "2" above.

Responsibilities

• Crossed trained to perform clerical duties to aide in registration, greeting and clinic flow.
• Documenting intake information collected at triage in the Electronic Medical Records.
• Setting up collection room and ensuring appropriate guidelines are followed and carried out.
• Preparing collection room for specimen drop off, processing and transporting to Quickie lab or other appropriate laboratories for infections related to STI, and any other future emerging viral or microbial agents.
• Performing clerical functions, such as registration, INSTI antibody finger stick reading, phlebotomy and posting laboratory results.
• Assisting with maintenance of inventory supplies and when necessary, preparing e-order forms for supplies.
• Documenting all necessary forms including any e-forms, preparing all received forms or requests, and completing documentation for all specimen types.
• Assisting site supervisor and DIS/SPHA in any other related duties.
