About The Position

Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) provides supports for seniors, families, and communities, and helps Albertans access disability services, continuing care, financial supports, affordable housing, services for the homeless, and other social-based programs. The Ministry supports Albertans through a person-centered, integrated service delivery model that recognizes the unique circumstances, experiences and strengths of individuals and families. The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (OPGT) provides essential support for individuals that are not able to make personal or financial decisions. It offers guardianship and trusteeship services, administers estates, and manages benefits. OPGT also oversees capacity assessments, investigates complaints regarding decision-makers, and provides guidance on advance planning and personal directives. The Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee is currently seeking a Public Guardian Representative for Edmonton region. Our dynamic team of professionals are committed to making quality decisions on behalf of represented adults and providing case management services for an assigned caseload.

Requirements

  • Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills.
  • Effective oral and writing skills - communication with physicians and allied health professionals is a daily part of this role.
  • Strong interviewing and assessment skills.
  • Outstanding problem-solving, mediation and conflict resolutions skills.
  • Confident public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Strong research and advocacy skills.
  • Related university degree with a minimum of two (2) years directly related experience working with represented adults.
  • Master of Social Work, no experience required.
  • Related diploma and 3 years related experience.
  • Certificate and 4 years related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a front-line case management role (e.g., Healthcare, PDD, CSS, AISH).
  • Experience Interacting with community service providers, health providers, and government agencies.
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults such as persons with dementia, severe and persistent psychiatric disorders, developmental disabilities, and acquired brain injury.
  • Experience providing service delivery in accordance with legislation, associated regulations, and policies. (Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act, Personal Directives Act and Mental Health Act).
  • Experience working with court procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Work well within a team.
  • Be skilled at coordinating and participating in case conferences in order to engage clients, keep families and other stakeholders informed, and create opportunities which allow clients to have meaningful input into their plans.
  • Be well-versed in negotiating case management plans; reviewing and determining suitable community services to assist clients with complex needs.
  • Adapt to a flexible schedule – occasional public presentations/meetings in the evening and on weekends.
  • Be willing to participate in an on-call/after-hours rotation (approximately one week per year).
