About The Position

Morgan Stanley is a leading global financial services firm. The Public Finance Business is seeking a Quantitative Developer & Strategist with a focus on Fixed Income. This role involves building models, developing applications, and integrating AI into workflows within the fast-paced public finance market. The individual will be responsible for taking ideas from concept to production, automating processes, and analyzing data to drive business decisions. The role requires a blend of quantitative, engineering, and product thinking skills, with a focus on shipping production-ready applications.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in a quantitative field, or strong undergraduate background with demonstrated hands-on experience.
  • Strong Python skills, writing clean, testable, production-ready code.
  • CI/CD fluency: Git, Docker, structured development workflow.
  • Solid statistics and probability fundamentals.
  • Some exposure to fixed income (or ability to learn quickly).
  • Experience using GenAI coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Thinking in systems, building robust and scalable solutions.
  • Experience taking ideas through the full development lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment).
  • Skepticism towards outputs and a critical approach to analysis.
  • Excitement about AI and its application in financial workflows.
  • Experience with Python, Flask, React, kdb+/q, Docker, OpenAI, and Anthropic Claude.

Responsibilities

  • Build models to help the desk understand where risk is accumulating.
  • Ship React dashboards to present model outputs in real time.
  • Automate workflows that are currently time-consuming.
  • Integrate AI agents to extract information from deal documents and flag anomalies.
  • Analyze data to question business assumptions and provide insights.
  • Develop and deploy production applications.
  • Collaborate with senior strategists, bankers, and traders.
