About The Position

The Public Education Technician will report to the Staff Coordinator. Public Education Technicians are primarily responsible for assisting with the department’s Community Risk Reduction & Safety Programs including Smoke Detector Battery Changes and Smoke Detector installation, Child Safety Seat installations; CPR, AED, First Aid & Fire Extinguisher instruction; Community AED Program support and District facilities AED checks. The Public Education Technician will perform all Emergency reporting functions for the recording of all public requests for safety assistance and education. They may also assist and provide needed support to other Public Safety personnel as required. Public Education Technicians exhibit a friendly and caring attitude when interacting with residents to ensure positive community relations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • CPR and AED certification (training provided).
  • CPR Instructor certification (training provided).
  • Child Safety Seat Installation certification (training provided).
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
  • Required FEMA (ICS) certifications must be completed within six months of hire.
  • All candidates and employees must successfully pass background screening.
  • Familiarity with smoke detector and weather radio operation.
  • Proven intermediate level personal computer skills, (i.e., the ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer) and working knowledge of Microsoft office package (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint) and Emergency Reporting or some other similar database software.
  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to our residents.
  • Ability to repeatedly climb ladders daily.
  • Ability to use basic tools associated with the job function.
  • Strong work ethic and proven ability to provide excellent customer service to our residents.
  • Position requires attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional appearance.
  • Ability to work with a large diverse population and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Installing smoke detector batteries and replacing smoke detector units.
  • Installing infant and child car/booster safety seats.
  • Instruction of community safety courses: CPR & AED, First Aid, Fire Extinguishers.
  • Assist AED Communities with AED management & program components.
  • Schedule and coordinate AED monthly checks for District facilities.
  • Call residents/or receive calls to schedule smoke detector assistance.
  • Record incidents in Emergency Reporting software.
  • Provide weather radio education and assistance to residents.
  • Assist and support other Public Safety personnel as required.
  • Perform CPR & operate AEDs competently, maintain training & certifications for CPR & AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators).
  • Enhance positive community relations by assisting residents and guests in a friendly, courteous and friendly manner.
  • Obtain and report to supervisor any resident concerns that may need to be relayed to local Law Enforcement or District departments for resolution.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be expected to perform additional duties in an emergency.
