The Lincoln County Public Defender serves as the chief attorney and administrative head of the Lincoln County Public Defender Office and is responsible for the development, leadership, management, and professional operation of the office. The Public Defender provides and oversees high-quality legal representation to indigent persons entitled to court-appointed representation under South Dakota law and exercises independent professional judgment in carrying out the constitutional and professional responsibilities of the office. The Public Defender is responsible for establishing and administering the office, supervising attorneys and staff, managing caseloads and resources, and working collaboratively with County officials and other justice-system participants while maintaining the professional independence necessary to provide effective representation to clients.
