The Office of the Public Defender is seeking detail-oriented applicants with customer service and data entry skills for a full-time, entry-level Public Defender Intake Specialist I position. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment in our Prince George’s county office. The Public Defender Intake Specialist I is the first interaction clients have with the Office of the Public Defender. Professionalism, people skills, and empathy are a must. Intake Specialists are responsible for the creation of the file for the attorney, creating and mailing assignment letters to clients and attorneys, and filing entries of appearance with the court. Intake Specialists open, close and update cases in the agency case management system (edefender). Intake Specialists pull files and dockets from fax repositories and the offices’ email accounts and transfers them to the discovery drive, Google drive and sheets, and updating in edefender (assigning edefender number and inserting correspondence). Additionally, the Intake Specialist I must answer phones, greet the public, and retrieve and enter data. Public Defender Intake Specialist I will also help with organization of case files and process discovery. Assist co-workers when needed. Employees in this classification do not supervise.
