Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated and experienced professional for a Public Benefits Supervisor. The successful candidate will join the Public Benefits team within the Department of Family Services which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. We support individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination.

Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of SNAP, Medicaid, and TANF policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory experience, including coaching, mentoring, employee development, and performance management.
  • The ability to interpret and apply complex public assistance policies while ensuring accurate and timely program administration.
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations, training programs, and staff development initiatives.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-oriented in a fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to customer service and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, customers, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Human Services field related and three (3) years of professional experience in a social services public benefits department including one (1) year supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising staff responsible for both intake and ongoing case management functions.
  • Experience monitoring performance related to timeliness, accuracy, and payment error reduction initiatives.
  • Experience handling complex customer service issues and resolving escalated concerns.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of eligibility professionals to achieve performance goals and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Monitor casework and service delivery to ensure compliance with state timeliness, accuracy, and program integrity standards.
  • Analyze reports, workload data, and case activity to identify trends, address challenges, and improve operational outcomes.
  • Provide guidance and technical expertise on complex eligibility determinations, policy interpretation, and case resolution.
  • Deliver training, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff knowledge and performance.
  • Collaborate with community partners, agency leadership, and state stakeholders to support program objectives and service delivery.
  • Respond to escalated customer concerns and support staff in resolving complex service issues.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork, and customer-focused service.
