About The Position

The Press Hotel, a historic landmark reborn in Portland, Maine, is seeking a Public Area Attendant. This role is crucial in maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of all public spaces, ensuring a welcoming environment for guests and staff. The hotel, formerly the Portland Press Herald headquarters, now operates under EOS Hospitality and offers over 100 guest rooms, a full-service restaurant (Union), a lobby cafe and bar (Inkwell), and versatile meeting and event spaces. The Public Area Attendant will be responsible for a wide range of cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout the property, contributing to the hotel's reputation for excellence.

  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and utilize cleaning chemicals safely.
  • Ability to maintain positive communication with various departments and leadership.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of all public areas, including the lobby, hallways, meeting spaces, fitness center, elevators, stairwells, and entrances.
  • Clean and sanitize public and employee restrooms while ensuring all supplies remain fully stocked.
  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, and disinfect floors, furniture, glass, fixtures, and other surfaces throughout the hotel.
  • Remove trash and recycling from public spaces, offices, employee areas, and guest-facing locations.
  • Maintain employee areas including break rooms, locker rooms, administrative offices, laundry areas, and back-of-house hallways.
  • Clean and replenish the fitness center, including equipment, towels, water stations, and guest amenities.
  • Ensure entrances, windows, doors, artwork, mirrors, and decorative features remain clean and well maintained.
  • Monitor all public spaces for cleanliness throughout the shift and promptly address spills, debris, or guest concerns.
  • Communicate maintenance or safety concerns to the appropriate department.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and utilize cleaning chemicals safely and according to hotel standards.
  • Assist with special projects, deep cleaning assignments, and other housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Maintain positive communication with the Front Desk, Engineering, and hotel leadership to ensure guest needs are met promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
