About The Position

The Public Affairs and Policy Impact Officer support ALONE’s policy and advocacy work by researching key issues, developing evidence-based policy positions, and engaging with Oireachtas, government and sector stakeholders. The role helps coordinate public affairs activities, events, and advisory forum participation. Working across teams and with external partners, the officer strengthens ALONE’s influence on policy affecting older people. The position also supports monitoring and reporting on the impact of ALONE’s policy and public affairs initiatives.

Requirements

  • Experience in public affairs, policy development, advocacy, or stakeholder engagement, preferably within the political, public affairs, health, social care, or not-for-profit sectors.
  • Strong research, analytical, and report-writing skills with the ability to interpret policy, legislation, data, and evidence to inform recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefings, policy papers, submissions, and stakeholder communications.
  • Proven ability to build relationships, work collaboratively across teams, and engage effectively with government bodies, policymakers, and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with stakeholders both internally & externally
  • A collaborative team player who fosters strong internal and external relationships.
  • Problem-solver, using innovation to improve service delivery and support independent older person and the people we serve.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet KPIs.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and reporting of ALONE’s public affairs activity (e.g., assist in the preparation of briefing materials, presentations, and reports, and providing follow-up materials)
  • Carry out analysis of external publications, Government policy, legislation, research, and data to support the development of evidence-based policy positions and recommendations
  • Maintain and develop ALONE policy position papers, and produce clear and creative communications materials to inform campaigning and public affairs work
  • Work collaboratively to support the planning and delivery of policy launches, public affairs events, stakeholder briefings, and other events as required
  • Support ALONE's participation in public bodies and advisory forums, by contributing research, drafting submissions, coordinating inputs and attending as required
  • Support engagement and integration with key external stakeholders, including the HSE, the Department of Health, and other relevant statutory and policy bodies
  • Carry out such other duties as may be assigned from time to time
