About The Position

The Public Affairs Officer – Junior, is a self-starter that provides essential administrative and operational support to the public affairs team. This individual will assist with the daily activities across all functions, including media monitoring, content creation, and event coordination. The role is designed for a motivated and organized individual eager to develop foundational skills in the public affairs field by working closely with and learning from senior team members.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field is required.
  • 2+ years of professional experience or relevant internships in a, public relations or journalism setting. In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, the candidate must have 2+ years of direct public affairs or journalism experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities with an eagerness to draft, edit, and proofread materials.
  • A high degree of accuracy and thoroughness when completing tasks such as compiling media clips, maintaining contact lists, or scheduling posts.
  • The ability to assist with multiple tasks and prioritize assignments effectively in a fast-paced support role.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Must be familiar with major social media platforms (e.g., X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook).
  • Must have a current/active TS/SCI clearance or higher
  • An active Top Secret SCI security clearance is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and distribute daily press clippings and news summaries for leadership.
  • Produce high-volume public affairs content in AP Style with minimal errors, including articles, newsletters, social media, podcasts, website content, daily news clips, communication plans, video concepts/scripts, and related products.
  • Create platform-specific social media content and photojournalist products.
  • Conduct trend research, build content calendars, and deliver analytics for social and web performance.
  • Provide public affairs support for conferences, academic outreach, and community events.
  • Develop materials for industry, academia, leadership, and DoD/ICDoD/IC stakeholders (presentations, briefing books, slick sheets, brochures, handouts, agendas).
  • Plan and execute high-level external events/campaigns, ensuring all planning is completed three business days prior.
  • Prepare read-ahead materials, prep packages, placemats, and briefings; deliver formal/informal briefings and museum tours.
  • Manage public inquiries, advise on outreach procedures, maintain confidentiality, and track external speaking engagements.
  • Maintain databases, coordinate intake forms, ethics reviews, and respond to invitations within 24 hours.
  • Coordinate venues, logistics, accommodations, AV, VIP rooms, and provide on-site event support and escort services.
  • Support high-level military/civilian, foreign/domestic visits, ceremonies, and special events.
  • Manage internal and external engagements for senior leadership (schedules, agendas, planning materials).
  • Prepare visit-specific presentations, briefing books, and related materials, with planning completed three business days in advance.
  • Support the Geospatial Intelligence Hall of Fame program: publicize nominations, process packages, coordinate reviews, serve as board secretary, and plan and oversee the annual awards event.
