About The Position

Washington County's Administrative Office (CAO) is now seeking a Public Affairs and Communications Coordinator to assist with the county’s public outreach regarding public safety. This position will be part of the overall communications function of the CAO and will work closely with and serve as a communications liaison to the departments and offices associated with the County’s public safety and justice system, with a specific focus on the Community Corrections and Juvenile Services departments. These two departments have missions to reduce further involvement in the justice system among justice-involved adults and youth. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with regular in-person time and some remote work determined by business needs.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Public or Business Administration, Political Science, Communications, Journalism or related degree
  • 2 years of experience related to public or governmental affairs
  • Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and executing strategic communication plans to reach multiple audiences with written, verbal, video, earned media and social media content.
  • Creating effective media and public relations and serving as a credible public information representative, including engaging with news organizations, community stakeholders and the public.
  • Building collaborative working relationships and managing communication projects in a team environment.
  • Creating engaging digital content using a mobile device, ensuring materials are visually compelling, aligned with organizational messaging and suitable for social media platforms.
