About The Position

PTFE Extrusion Dev Technician Level “A” will be responsible for technically maintaining development in a defined area of the facility. This would include troubleshooting and correction of process failures, overseeing extruder assembly, maintaining damaged tooling, overseeing extruder startup, ensuring best practice sheets are being recorded properly, and running of PTFE development projects.

Requirements

  • Technically competent in running multiple materials, process configurations, and different sizes/types of extruders.
  • Minimum of one (1) year hands on experience in operation of PTFE extrusion.
  • WorkKey Score Requirements: Math – Score needs to be a 4 or greater.
  • WorkKey Score Requirements: Reading – Score needs to be a 4 or greater.
  • WorkKey Score Requirements: Locating Information - Score needs to be a 4 or greater.
  • Wiesen score of 40 or better from Entry Level.

Responsibilities

  • Technically maintaining development in a defined area of the facility.
  • Troubleshooting and correction of process failures.
  • Overseeing extruder assembly.
  • Maintaining damaged tooling.
  • Overseeing extruder startup.
  • Ensuring best practice sheets are being recorded properly.
  • Running of PTFE development projects.
  • Properly identify cosmetic defects (Surface finish - Roughness OD/ID, Shear Marks, Cloudiness, Black Spots, Undercooked, Overcooked, OD / ID Lines, OD / ID Cracked, Cut ends jagged, OD/ID Wall Cracked, Loose Dirt, Slippage, Powder Marks, Lube Smell in Tubing, Splitting, Kinks/Dents).
  • Properly diagnose dimensional problems (Material Flat Walls off OD/ID/WALL Adjustments, Concentricity / TIR out of spec, Fluctuating Size, Ovality, Cut Lengths / Tolerance / Angularity).
  • Understanding of compounding (overworked powder, wet/dry powder identification, root cause, prevention, pre-rolling effects, cross contamination, dirt pickup, coagulated pigment, lumpy powder).
  • Adhering to jar washing rules.
  • Ensuring process documentation and notes are properly completed and organized daily.
  • Proficiency on coil, spool, cut put-ups, differences, and why.
  • Proficiently measuring parts.
  • Extrusion of PTFE over wire.
  • Understanding of preforming (dry out, prevention, pressure build up, fluctuating at the head, required surface cosmetics, gouges/scrapes, ID/OD cracks, effect on extrusion).
  • Understanding of what to watch for when pouring color/fillers and corrections.
  • Proper procedure for stacking preforms.
  • Understanding of tooling matchups (Rod/Adapter, Adapter/Mandrel, Sleeve/Master die, Master die/Insert Polish).
  • Proper Mandrel Measurement.
  • Setup and operation of test equipment to evaluate prototypes against specifications (Tensile testing on Instron, SEM images and IND measurement).
