School-based PT Observation

YAINew York, NY
Onsite

About The Position

This observation experience will provide physical therapy students with an introduction to pediatric physical therapy practice within a specialized school serving children and young adults with brain-based disabilities and complex medical needs. Students will observe licensed physical therapists as they support mobility, positioning, postural control, transfers, adaptive equipment use, therapeutic exercise, and participation in educational routines. The primary objectives are to increase students’ understanding of the physical therapist’s role within an interdisciplinary school-based team; demonstrate how examination findings and functional goals guide intervention; introduce students to adaptive seating, standing, gait, and mobility equipment; and promote awareness of safety, communication and family-centered care. This is an observation-only experience, and students will not provide hands-on treatment, independently assist with transfers, or participate in clinical decision-making.
