About The Position

Ball State University Dining has an opportunity for a PT Food Service Custodian position. Come and join the Ball State University Dining team on the beautiful Ball State campus and help create excellent customer service experiences for students, faculty, staff and employees! This position may work up to 32 hours per week.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must have clean body, teeth, hair, nails, and clothing.
  • No allergies to soaps, cleaning agents, chemicals, or other materials or environmental factors in food service, e.g. steam, dust, etc.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, and University policies, procedures, communications, and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Must be able to perform all physical and mental requirements outlined in each job duty/responsibility.
  • Must have at least one year work experience (full time or part time).
  • You must be 18 years or older
  • Requires the physical ability to stoop, crouch, finger, reach, grasp, walk and/or stand for extended periods of time, and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly.

  • Six (6) months successful employment in a commercial custodial position performing similar duties to those expected at BSU.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, scrape, prewash, lift and rack items to be washed, set up and operate pan washing machine, store items, maintain sanitary work area.
  • Sweep, mop and scrub floors, wash walls, and ceilings throughout food service areas.
  • Clean greasy or soiled food service areas and equipment including but not limited to tops of refrigerators and ovens, motors, air filters, dirt system, vents, walls and ceilings, etc.
  • Clean, renovate, and renew floor surfaces and finishes including carpet maintenance; perform other cleaning duties including, but not limited to, cleaning food service equipment, windows, ceiling fixtures, etc.; change light bulbs/tubes; clean and resupply restrooms.
  • Dispose of trash, refuse and waste materials; clean refuse containers and areas.
  • Lock and unlock food service areas to ensure security.
  • Obtain and deliver supplies and materials as necessary.
  • Train and direct student personnel as assigned.
  • Maintain correct safety and sanitation standards.
  • Lift heavy objects as needed.
  • Receive, store, inventory and issue food supplies and equipment as assigned, involves lifting heavy objects and reading, counting and recording data.
  • Remove, arrange, replace and/or move dining furniture and food service equipment as necessary.
  • Assist with dishwashing and storage.
  • Date and price stock items as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
