About The Position

Under the direction of the Student Educational Access and Opportunity Director and school principals, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will develop and deliver English lessons to students with varying levels of ability and will establish effective rapport with students. Further, the teacher will motivate pupils to develop skills and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be built and maintained with other staff and parents. The ESL teacher will oversee federal and state compliance for their assigned students. This position is funded in full through grant allocations sources. Continued employment (or the position’s hourly workload) is contingent upon the availability of future funding, as determined on a yearly basis.

Requirements

Current Utah Teaching License with ESL Endorsement (Language Arts or English Endorsement is also highly preferred)
Successful experience working with English Language Learners
Ability to work closely with students to improve their language acquisition in reading, writing, listening and speaking
Strong problem solving skills
Effective communication skills
Knowledge of Utah State Core Standards and Utah State Board of Education adopted guidance specifically as it relates to ELL students
Strong understanding of WIDA language development standards and the ability to analyze and use WIDA ACCESS data

Responsibilities

Coach colleagues to promote best strategies to enrich the learning in content-area classrooms for the ELL students
Work as a team to determine the best placements and support for each ELL student
Determine and monitor ILDP goals
Ensure all Federal requirements are being met
Oversee and prepare ELL students for the WIDA test
Administer the WIDA assessment
Teach subject matter, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities.
Create a strong blended or online course at various language acquisition levels within stated guidelines
Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences which best utilize the time available for instruction
Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction
Control the storage and use of district owned property; make minor adjustments and request repairs as required
Maintain classroom organization and discipline
Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere
Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds
Devise and utilize techniques which accurately measure students' progress
Evaluate student's academic and personal growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
Communicate with parents frequently to discuss academic and personal progress
Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas
Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission
Conform to district policies including attendance, absences and evaluations
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school, staff, district staff and patrons
Participates in Professional Learning Community discussions at grade and subject levels
Regular and reliable level of attendance is a necessary essential function of this job

The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.
