About The Position

In a career as a Psychometrist, you join us in providing life-changing care to patients from across the region. In this role, you will administer and score psychological test batteries evaluating cognitive, academic, neuropsychological, behavioral, and emotional status including those patients which are difficult, complex or have disorders in a specialty, in order to assist Clinical Psychologists, Neuropsychologists and other medical professionals in treatment decisions. Provide technical support to Clinical Psychologists/ Neuropsychologists for patients being seen in the inpatient and outpatient setting and clinical research projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (in Psychology, Sociology, or in a behavioral science-related field from an accredited college or university) required
  • Minimum of two years of experience in the performance of psychological and/or neuropsychological testing and test scoring required.
  • If employed in the Cognitive Neuroscience department, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of transfer or hire required.
  • Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) certification within 30 days of transfer or hire required.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and scores psychological tests, including objective personality tests administered by the clinician.
  • The supervising clinical psychologist/neuropsychologist provides technical and clinical guidance and uses the assessments and reports that the psychometrist performs and prepares to assist in diagnosing and preparing treatment plans for patients or to recommend treatment to patients referring doctors.
  • Accurately scores the assessments with appropriate norms and provides detailed behavioral observations of the patient that may be used by the clinician to aid in test interpretation.
  • Provides a written summary of the patient’s behavior during testing, including any interactions with the patient’s parents or peers that may be observed incidentally.
  • Assists clinical psychologists/neuropsychologist in selection of test(s) to be administered.
  • Trouble-shoots difficult testing situations and administers tests that are developmentally appropriate for the child.
  • Adapts the administration of tests to the specific needs of each patient while staying within the standardized procedures set forth for each specific test.
  • Ensures that patients referred for testing are scheduled to be seen in a timely manner.
  • Discusses progress of inpatients with other health professionals; keeps clinical psychologist/neuropsychologist informed of their status; documents in the medical record.
  • Assists with research projects and special groups.
  • Acclimates fellows, residents and research assistants to the psychometrist position and the collaborative relationship.
  • Participates in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to departmental discussions.
  • Remains knowledgeable of new testing instruments as they become available and maintains files of newly developed testing instruments.
