About The Position

Spokane Community College (SCC) seeks qualified candidates for an on-ground, adjunct (part-time) position instructing Psychology courses within the Social Sciences department. We seek applicants with a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. SCC strives to attract faculty who are content experts in their field, and who are also knowledgeable about best practices, innovative teaching strategies, and effective instructional technologies to support students. Classes will be taught in-person at the SCC campus. There may also be an opportunity to instruct hybrid or online classes in the future. Spokane Community College, part of Spokane Colleges, serves 15,000 students with career technical, liberal arts, and adult education programs in Spokane and surrounding rural communities.

Requirements

  • An earned Master’s degree in Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Experience equivalent to teaching one year (3 quarters or 2 semesters of college-level courses). Graduate teaching assistantships are acceptable.
  • Evidence of instructional excellence. Acceptable forms of documentation may include student evaluations, peer evaluations, and/or supervisory evaluations.
  • Proficiency in classroom instructional technology and learning management system technology.
  • Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment.
  • Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and instruct classes on campus primarily ; may be opportunities for hybrid or online instruction in the future.
  • Provide availability and accessibility to students through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility and other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
  • Communicate expectations and establish clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but be not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluating student progress and providing clear, timely feedback.
  • Comply with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; follow established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, student safety and health issues and related administrative processes.

Benefits

  • Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only).
  • Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter.
