About The Position

Legacy’s mission of making life better for others extends to the whole person—including the psychological well-being of individuals facing cancer. Our psychologists specialize in supporting adult patients navigating the complex emotional, behavioral, and cognitive challenges associated with cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and advanced illness. For many patients, psychological care is essential to coping with distress, uncertainty, and life transitions brought on by cancer. For others, mental health concerns may impact treatment adherence, recovery, or quality of life. In every case, care must be delivered with clinical expertise, compassion, and respect. This role is for individuals passionate about improving the psychological health of adults affected by cancer and contributing to whole-person, integrated care.

Requirements

  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Minimum two years post-doctoral inpatient and/or outpatient psychological services experience required.
  • Demonstrated competencies in assessment and treatment of emotional, cognitive and behavioral disorders in child, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients (depending upon population served by specific position).
  • Demonstrated competency in assessment and treatment of cognitive and psychological problems secondary to, associated with, and/or exacerbating medical conditions.
  • Current licensure as a psychologist by the applicable State Board of Psychologist Examiners.
  • Must be eligible for membership in the hospital medical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats emotional, cognitive, and behavioral problems or disorders affecting child, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients (depending upon population served by specific position).
  • Provides services for patients whose psychological disturbance is the primary problem as well as for patients whose psychological disturbance is secondary to or adversely affecting the management of a primary medical problem.
  • Participates as a member of the treatment team by providing guidance to other members of the team regarding management of patients’ emotional, behavioral, cognitive and family-systems problems, while following established departmental, program and professional standards.
  • Performs psychological assessment and testing as needed to diagnose and plan treatment, and to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
