About The Position

Under general supervision of the Director of Services for Persons with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, this role evaluates persons served using the DSM-5-TR and serves as the agency/program psychology consultant with specialized skills in applying behavioral, sociological, and psychological concepts in planning mental health services. The position provides guidance in resource development and recommendations for community organization of professional and natural supports for individuals implementing the recovery model. It performs psychological assessments and clinical evaluations related to behavioral plans, voluntary/involuntary hospital admissions consultations, and NGRI status evaluations to determine the adequacy of existing treatment and community management plans. This position requires knowledge of and active support for culturally competent recovery-based practices, person-centered planning as a shared decision-making process, and a trauma-informed culture of safety to aid individuals in their recovery process.

Requirements

Doctoral degree in a mental health related field from an accredited school.
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the human services field.
At least three years of full-time postdoctoral, post-internship experience in the practice of psychology involving either training, research, consultation, or program planning in the mental health services.
Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s license with a good driving record.
A licensed psychologist (LP) or limited licensed psychologist (LLP) in the State of Michigan.
Clinical awareness and sensitivity, including a belief that individuals with mental illness can be meaningful participants in our community and experience recovery.
General skills with resource allocation, including inter-agency, intra-agency, and insurance coordination.
Knowledge of emotional, social, psychological, and environmental problems, and the techniques used in treating or managing them.
Knowledge of techniques for observing; assessing behaviors; and experimental and research techniques.
Knowledge of psychotherapy and counseling techniques.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of applied behavior analyses; clinical psychology; and group behavior and interaction.
Knowledge of abnormal psychology.
Knowledge of the techniques of conducting evaluative and therapeutic interviews.
Knowledge of the types and uses of standardized psychological tests including the applicable testing for individuals who are developmentally, socially, or emotionally impaired.
Knowledge of statistical techniques used in testing and research.
Ability to effectively interact and establish a rapport with person served, and to develop therapeutic relationships.
Ability to use intervention methods to bring about positive behavioral changes in persons served.
Ability to facilitate positive group interaction and mutual support; be able to prepare clear and concise case studies.
Ability to administer and score tests, and conduct surveys, interviews, and experimental procedures.
Ability to plan, organize and complete work in a timely fashion.
Ability to coordinate other disciplines to maximize positive person served chosen outcomes.
Ability to facilitate small groups and work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to lift and carry files and supplies at least 20 pounds.
Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees, person served and the general public.
Analytical skills necessary to conduct research, analyze, and interpret complex data and identify and solve problems by proposing courses of action.
Ability to plan short and long range and to manage and schedule time.
Ability to handle stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and/or person served.

Responsibilities

Prepares professional psychological assessments of persons served and participates in their future planning activities.
Observes, records, and evaluates the behavior of persons served during psychological examinations and other situations.
Effectively communicates clinical findings in written and oral form, with treatment recommendations within the Person Centered Planning and Recovery process.
Performs directive, non-directive and supportive individual and group therapy.
Selects, administers, scores, and interprets a variety of diagnostic instruments, such as psychological, achievement, neuropsychological, intelligence, interest, personality, vocational, and projective tests.
Provides guidance over the operation of group therapies and DBT team formation through psychological consultation by facilitating and monitoring group dynamics and reviewing skill performance and outcome measurements.
Provides crisis intervention assistance.
Reviews and coordinates selected admissions, discharges, and referrals.
Provides testimony in court hearings regarding a variety of psychological matters.
Attends training workshops and seminars related to work.
Participates in program research studies related to psychological, educational, or treatment techniques.
Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.
Performs related essential functions appropriate to the psychological evaluation of the person served related to program and non-essential functions as required.
Adheres to the mission, vision, core values, and operating principles of SCCMHA at all times.
Performs various administrative/clerical functions such as preparing travel vouchers, making copies of documents, filing, time management, data collection, reporting, etc.
Attends meetings, seminars, workshops, and community events related to the public mental health mission.
May occasionally transport person served to and from agencies and community resources in personal automobile or agency vehicle.
Reacts productively to change and handles other essential tasks as assigned.
Participates in CQI functions.
Uses computer hardware and software to perform tasks.
Attends and passes mandatory training and keeps required trainings updated.
