About The Position

The Maryland State Department of Education, specifically the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), is seeking a Psychologist II. This role is within the Disability Determination Services and involves adjudicating Social Security and Supplemental Security Income electronic disability claims. The position requires leadership and direction to units of Disability Claims Examiners and Administrative Specialists, ensuring accurate, timely, and cost-effective claim processing. The Psychologist will review psychiatric and psychological evidence, analyze its sufficiency for disability evaluation according to Social Security Regulations, assess impairment severity, and describe functional limitations. They will also prepare written opinions, advise on clinical matters, review Consultative Examination reports, and participate in training development for examiner staff.

Requirements

Must be licensed as a Psychologist by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment.
Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research after receipt of the Psychologist license.
Possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland (if assigned duties requiring operation of a vehicle).
Must pass the SSA suitability process for access to Social Security Administration's systems, data, information, and/or premises.

Responsibilities

Review psychiatric and psychological evidence to establish existence, severity, onset, duration and remendability of impairments.
Analyze the sufficiency of psychiatric and psychological evidence to evaluate disability in accordance with Social Security Regulations.
Assess impairment severity and describe functional limitations imposed by impairments.
Prepare written opinions to include a statement of findings, an assessment of severity and description of mental residual functional capacity.
Advise others in the unit, in cases specific to clinical training and experience.
Review Consultative Examination (CE) reports for accuracy, completeness and deficiencies in context.
Participate in the development and implementation of training for examiner staff in the understanding and use of psychological evidence.
