About The Position

The University Accessibility Center (UAC) is seeking a Psychological Services Coordinator to help ensure students with disabilities have equitable access to university programs, services, activities, and facilities. This position provides individualized accessibility services and coordinates academic accommodations for students with learning, attention, emotional, and health-related disabilities that substantially limit one or more major life activities. The Psychological Services Coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for assigned students and works collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and university offices to identify and remove barriers to participation and academic success. The Coordinator uses an individualized, interactive process to understand each student's needs, determine reasonable accommodations, and support successful implementation of those accommodations.

Requirements

Master’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or a related field and at least one year of experience working in an advisement or counseling setting.
Excellent interpersonal, advising, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish trusting and professional relationships with students, faculty, staff, and healthcare professionals.
Ability to review and interpret disability-related documentation and identify relevant functional limitations.
Knowledge of reasonable accommodations and the principles of equal access for students with disabilities.
Working knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Understanding of FERPA, confidentiality, privacy, and appropriate handling of sensitive student information.
Ability to exercise sound professional judgment when evaluating accommodation requests.
Ability to balance student access needs with essential academic requirements and university policies.
Ability to manage a substantial caseload, prioritize competing responsibilities, and maintain accurate and timely documentation.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with diverse disabilities, backgrounds, perspectives, and levels of understanding regarding disability services.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, academic departments, healthcare providers, and university offices.
Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

Doctorate degree in clinical, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or school psychology with documented coursework focusing on the assessment and accommodation of postsecondary students with disabilities.
At least two years of experience working in an advisement or counseling setting, preferably in disability services or a related student support services office.
Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling, special education, disability studies, counseling, psychology, education, or a closely related field.
Two or more years of professional experience in a postsecondary disability services office, rehabilitation setting, or related student support environment.
Knowledge of physical disabilities, mobility impairments, chronic health conditions, neurological conditions, and other conditions that may affect a student's physical functioning or access to the university environment.
Knowledge of the functional impact of physical disabilities in higher education settings.
Experience reviewing documentation from physicians, psychologists, rehabilitation professionals, therapists, and other qualified healthcare providers.
Knowledge of accessible technology, adaptive equipment, mobility devices, and other assistive technologies.
Knowledge of architectural and physical accessibility principles and their application in a university environment.
Knowledge of accessible transportation, housing, classroom environments, laboratories, clinical settings, and experiential learning environments.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized intake, consultation, and accommodation services to students with disabilities.
Meet individually with students to understand their disability-related experiences, functional limitations, academic barriers, and accommodation needs.
Review disability-related documentation from qualified healthcare and rehabilitation professionals and evaluate documentation for relevance, recency, credibility, functional limitations, and accommodation needs.
Communicate with students and, when appropriate and authorized, qualified professionals or other relevant parties to clarify accommodation needs.
Engage students in an interactive process to identify reasonable accommodations that provide equal access while maintaining essential academic requirements.
Determine appropriate academic accommodations based on documented functional limitations, the academic environment, applicable laws, and university policies.
Prepare and communicate official accommodation notifications to faculty and appropriate university personnel.
Educate students about their approved accommodations and their responsibilities for utilizing and communicating those accommodations.
Consult with faculty and academic departments regarding the implementation of approved accommodations.
Coordinate accommodations for classrooms, examinations, field experiences, internships, practicums, clinical experiences, laboratories, and other academic settings.
Collaborate with university offices to address accessibility needs involving classrooms, facilities, housing, transportation, technology, campus events, and other university programs and services.
Coordinate with campus partners when accommodations require support or implementation outside of the UAC.
Provide information regarding accessible technology, adaptive equipment, assistive devices, and other resources when appropriate.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential student records in accordance with UAC procedures, FERPA, and applicable privacy requirements.
Respond to student, faculty, staff, and university inquiries regarding disability services, accommodations, and accessibility.
Refer students to appropriate university and community resources and support services.
Assist students in navigating concerns or barriers related to the implementation of approved accommodations.
Facilitate resolution of accommodation concerns through communication, consultation, problem-solving, and the interactive process.
Assist students in understanding disability-related rights and responsibilities, including resources related to workplace accommodations as they transition from university to employment.
Serve as a resource to students, faculty, staff, and university administrators regarding disability access, reasonable accommodations, and applicable laws and university policies.
Advocate for equitable access while appropriately considering academic standards, essential functions, and institutional requirements.
Consult with faculty and departments regarding effective accommodation implementation and inclusive practices.
Participate in case consultations and team meetings involving complex accommodation situations.
Collaborate with campus partners, including academic departments, housing, facilities, transportation, student health, testing services, and other university offices.
Help develop and implement programs, procedures, and initiatives that improve accessibility and the student experience.
Provide education and training to faculty, staff, and students regarding disability access and accommodation processes as assigned.
Participate in UAC staff meetings, case consultations, trainings, and departmental activities.
Contribute to university, division, and department committees and working groups as assigned.
Participate in university initiatives related to accessibility, student success, emergency preparedness, and campus access.
Assist with assessment, data collection, program evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Contribute to the development and review of UAC policies, procedures, resources, and educational materials.
Collaborate with other UAC coordinators to ensure consistent and comprehensive services for students.
Maintain current knowledge of federal and state disability laws, regulations, professional standards, and emerging practices in postsecondary disability services.
Ensure UAC practices are consistent with applicable laws and university policies governing access for students with disabilities, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as applicable.
Participate in professional development activities, conferences, workshops, seminars, and training related to disability services and higher education.
Continue professional learning related to disabilities, accessibility, assistive technology, accommodations, universal design, and higher education.
Meet regularly with the supervisor to discuss caseloads, complex cases, priorities, outcomes, and professional development.
Complete required administrative responsibilities, documentation, reporting, and other assignments in a timely manner.
Provide services to students with other disabilities and support additional UAC responsibilities as assigned by the UAC Director.
