About The Position

Psychiatry Physician Assistant Patients in psychiatric care need a clinician who can stabilize a crisis, clarify a diagnosis, and keep treatment moving between visits. This role puts you at the center of that work: you will assess, treat, and follow adults and adolescents whose lives depend on timely, thoughtful psychiatric care. Success is measured by safer patients, clearer plans, and a team that can trust your judgment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited PA program and current NCCPA certification, with an active state license or eligibility to obtain one.
  • DEA registration, or ability to obtain it, for controlled-substance prescribing in psychiatric practice.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and managing common psychiatric conditions, including mood, anxiety, psychotic, and substance-use disorders.
  • Proven skill adjusting psychotropic medications and monitoring labs, interactions, and adverse effects.
  • Comfort assessing suicide and violence risk and acting on that assessment the same day.
  • Clear, concise clinical writing and the ability to explain treatment choices to patients and collaborating physicians.

Responsibilities

  • Complete comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and formulate working diagnoses that guide treatment within the first visit.
  • Initiate, adjust, and monitor psychotropic regimens, documenting response, side effects, and rationale so care stays safe and continuous.
  • Manage a defined panel with timely follow-up, reducing avoidable gaps in medication and aftercare.
  • Coordinate with psychiatrists, therapists, and primary care so high-risk patients have a clear plan before they leave.
  • Recognize acute risk—suicidality, psychosis, severe withdrawal—and escalate or arrange a higher level of care without delay.
  • Document encounters that support clinical decisions, billing integrity, and handoffs other clinicians can act on.
  • Contribute to team case review by bringing outcome data and practical recommendations, not only status updates.
