About The Position

EPIC Health is a growing, multi-state healthcare organization focused on providing accessible, high-quality, patient-centered care. Our integrated care model brings together primary care, behavioral health, specialty services, care management, and other healthcare resources to address the needs of the whole patient. As EPIC Health continues to expand its behavioral health services, we are seeking a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and medication management services in a collaborative, integrated clinical environment. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, medication management, and ongoing behavioral health care for patients across the lifespan, within the provider's training, certification, and applicable Michigan scope-of-practice requirements. The PMHNP works collaboratively with psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, care managers, and other members of the clinical team to improve access to behavioral healthcare, promote continuity of care, and support positive patient outcomes. This position is ideal for a clinically strong PMHNP who values collaborative care, evidence-based treatment, patient education, and the opportunity to help expand behavioral health services within a growing healthcare organization.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program.
  • Current, unrestricted Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current, unrestricted Michigan APRN/NP authorization as applicable.
  • Current national board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) through an applicable recognized certifying organization.
  • Current DEA registration or ability to obtain DEA registration as required for the position.
  • Current controlled-substance authorization/registration as applicable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain EPIC Health medical staff privileges and payer credentialing.
  • Strong psychiatric assessment, clinical reasoning, medication management, and treatment-planning skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based behavioral healthcare.

Nice To Haves

  • 3+ years of experience practicing as a PMHNP.
  • Experience in outpatient psychiatry, integrated behavioral health, primary care, or community mental health.
  • Experience treating patients across a broad range of psychiatric conditions.
  • Experience with medication management and ongoing psychiatric follow-up.
  • Experience working within collaborative or integrated care models.
  • Experience with EHR systems and electronic clinical documentation.
  • Experience serving diverse patient populations and addressing barriers to behavioral healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and mental health histories.
  • Assess and diagnose psychiatric and behavioral health conditions within applicable scope of practice.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical presentation, patient needs, treatment goals, and evidence-based practices.
  • Prescribe, initiate, adjust, and monitor psychotropic medications in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Monitor treatment response, medication effectiveness, adherence, and potential adverse effects.
  • Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, risks, benefits, and symptom management.
  • Provide ongoing follow-up and modify treatment plans based on patient progress and clinical needs.
  • Assess patient safety and identify situations requiring urgent or higher-level behavioral health intervention.
  • Coordinate appropriate referrals for psychotherapy, specialty behavioral health services, substance use treatment, hospitalization, crisis services, or other levels of care when clinically indicated.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, nurses, care managers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and treatment planning.
  • Communicate relevant psychiatric treatment recommendations with the patient's broader care team.
  • Support integration of behavioral health into primary care and other clinical services.
  • Coordinate care with external providers and community resources when appropriate.
  • Support continuity of care during transitions between outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and specialty services.
  • Establish therapeutic, professional relationships with patients and families.
  • Provide culturally responsive, patient-centered care.
  • Educate patients and families regarding mental health conditions, treatment options, medications, lifestyle factors, and available resources.
  • Encourage patient participation in treatment planning and shared decision-making.
  • Promote treatment adherence and engagement with behavioral health services.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation in the EHR.
  • Document psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, follow-up care, referrals, and patient communications.
  • Complete clinical documentation and billing-related requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintain appropriate medication monitoring and controlled-substance documentation.
  • Follow HIPAA, applicable federal and Michigan regulations, professional standards, and EPIC Health policies and procedures.
  • Maintain required licenses, certifications, registrations, and clinical credentials.
  • Participate in quality improvement, clinical performance, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Support compliance with payer, credentialing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in clinical quality initiatives and behavioral health performance improvement programs.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and treatment effectiveness.
  • Support evidence-based behavioral health practices and standardized clinical workflows.
  • Participate in provider meetings, case reviews, trainings, and other required clinical activities.
  • Meet established productivity, documentation, quality, and patient-care expectations.
