About The Position

Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277-bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility in Petersburg, Virginia, with a history of serving the Commonwealth since 1870. A new, modern CSH is under construction, scheduled for completion in 2027. CSH includes the state's only maximum-security treatment facility (111 beds) and 166 beds for community individuals needing inpatient care and those in the criminal justice system. The hospital emphasizes holistic, person-centered treatment, recognizing that recovery is unique to each individual. Treatment modalities encompass medication, evidence-based group and individual therapy, peer support, psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational training, court preparation, and substance use treatment. This role offers an opportunity to work directly with severely mentally ill patients in a complex and rewarding environment, free from the complexities of managed care, and within a collegial and supportive medical staff that values a good quality of life.
