About The Position

The Psychiatrist provides continuous, comprehensive, and patient-centered psychiatric services for the promotion of optimal mental health, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disorders. This role includes full psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, medication management, and coordination of care for patients across the lifespan. The Psychiatrist works collaboratively with primary care providers, behavioral health clinicians, and community partners to deliver integrated care consistent with the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model. The Psychiatrist serves as a clinical leader within the behavioral health program and models behaviors consistent with the mission, values, and Code of Conduct of Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC).

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Psychiatry
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina
  • Board eligible or board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)
  • Current DEA registration eligible for North Carolina
  • Eligible for Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) coverage
  • Comprehensive psychiatric assessment and diagnostic formulation
  • Psychopharmacologic management across the lifespan
  • Risk assessment, crisis intervention, and emergency psychiatric care
  • Supervision and consultation with advanced practice providers and behavioral health staff
  • Quality improvement and population health management
  • Ability to manage a panel of psychiatric patients using registries and evidence-based practices
  • Ability to evaluate clinical outcomes and participate in continuous quality improvement
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-acuity or emergency situations
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and organizational software systems
  • Not subject to any other restraints which would impair or encumber the ability or authority to perform the duties described in this document

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and treatment planning
  • Diagnose and treat mental health and substance use disorders using evidence-based practices
  • Prescribe, monitor, and manage psychotropic medications in accordance with clinical guidelines
  • Provide consultation to primary care and behavioral health providers regarding psychiatric conditions and treatment plans
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to ensure coordinated and integrated patient care
  • Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory tests and diagnostic studies as clinically indicated
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, risks, benefits, and treatment alternatives
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic health record
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and clinical committees as assigned
  • Respond appropriately to psychiatric emergencies, including assessment for hospitalization and referral for inpatient care
  • Participate in community outreach, education programs, and health fairs as requested
  • Attend medical staff meetings and participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned, consistent with the scope of psychiatric practice
  • Practice medicine in accordance with ethical standards and the regulations of the North Carolina Medical Board
  • Comply with RCCHC policies, procedures, Code of Conduct, and compliance program requirements
  • Complete all credentialing, privileging, and onboarding requirements in a timely manner
  • Maintain required licensure, board status, and DEA registration
  • Meet full-time or part-time clinical hours as designated by contract, agreement, signed offer letter, or addenda thereof
  • Complete clinical documentation within 48 hours unless otherwise directed
  • Participate in at least one RCCHC community service committee or quality improvement initiative each quarter
  • Cooperate with operational and performance improvement initiatives
  • Provide care to all patients accepted for services at RCCHC in accordance with organizational protocols
  • Provide 90 days’ written notice of resignation
