About The Position

Bristol Health is seeking a full-time Psychiatrist for a leadership opportunity within their 15-bed senior behavioral health program. This role combines clinical expertise with administrative responsibilities, leading a multidisciplinary team in patient care, service coordination, and consultations for the aging population. The psychiatrist will be responsible for the evaluation and management of inpatients, observation status patients, and the medical needs of surgical patients. They will collaborate with nursing staff, support utilization and administration in case management activities, and ensure program coverage. The position involves providing direct psychiatric patient care services at Bristol Hospital, contributing to the development and management of the inpatient Psychiatry service, and assisting with practice management tasks such as budget preparation and assessing support needs. The role requires active participation in Bristol Hospital and BHMSG meetings.

Requirements

  • MD/DO
  • Current licensure in the State of Connecticut
  • Graduation from an Accredited Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) psychiatric residency program
  • Board Certification (or Board Eligibility) by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • A valid DEA registration
  • A Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration
  • Membership in and maintenance of appropriate privileges at Bristol Hospital Medical Staff

Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial patient assessments and admission procedures for patients under their management.
  • Formulate and implement treatment plans.
  • Schedule and review clinical and diagnostic tests as medically necessary.
  • Provide timely and regular reports to primary care physicians and family members.
  • Conduct multiple rounds daily as necessary.
  • Coordinate and integrate specialty and subspecialty consultations.
  • Coordinate patient transfers to and from intensive care units, medical/surgical units, skilled nursing facilities, or home.
  • Conduct timely and proactive discharge planning, ensuring appropriate follow-up.
  • Coordinate with the case management department for discharge planning.
  • Inform Hospital and/or primary care physicians of any problems identified after discharge, including notification of abnormal pending diagnostic reports.
  • Be available for and respond to provide admission, management, and consults for hospital-affiliated patients, including psychiatric patients.
  • Maintain effective communication with referring primary care physicians, attending physicians, consultants, nursing staff, patients, and family members.
  • Accurately and completely document all patient encounters in patient medical records and encounter forms.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably related to this Agreement as requested by Hospital Administration or their designee.
  • Participate and cooperate in the completion of the monthly hospitalists’ schedule.
  • Participate in compliance, in-service, and other administrative programs.
  • Cooperate with Hospital Administration in matters related to reimbursement for professional services.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of clinical pathways, protocols, core measure compliance, and other clinical effectiveness projects.
  • Comply with all Medical Staff Bylaws, rules and regulations, and Hospital policies and procedures.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships and participate in system improvements for patient, physician, colleague, and staff service.
  • Participate in the resolution of patient and provider complaints and enhancement of satisfaction.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships and communication with other physician members of the Psychiatry practice, support personnel, Hospital administration, and Medical Staff leadership.
  • Participate in periodic team meetings, e-mail, and/or other communication methods to foster effective working relationships and reduce variation in practice patterns.
  • Complete and maintain adequate and proper medical records.
  • Attend periodic meetings to review the effectiveness and performance of the Hospitalist program.
  • Participate in community benefit programs or other activities as requested.
