About The Position

At Legion Health, we believe everyone deserves fast, affordable, and world-class health care, and we’re building the AI infrastructure to deliver it at scale. Legion is building autonomous medical care, starting with psychiatry. Our AI-native care-delivery platform automates much of the administrative work involved in delivering direct patient care, freeing clinicians to focus on diagnosis, treatment, and their relationships with patients. We combine rich clinical data, production AI, doctors in the loop, and end-to-end care operations to deliver measurably better care to a clinically complex patient population. Our model gives clinicians the support and stability of an established organization with the flexibility and autonomy of modern telemedicine practice.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency.
  • Active, unrestricted Texas medical license.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in psychiatry.
  • Active, unrestricted DEA registration and any applicable state controlled-substance registrations.
  • Professional experience delivering psychiatric care through telehealth.
  • Experience working in community mental health.
  • Experience serving diverse, underserved, or clinically complex patient populations.
  • Experience managing, supervising, mentoring, or clinically leading APPs.

  • Experience prescribing Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substances through telehealth in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear, evidence-based treatment plans.

Nice To Haves

  • Multi-state medical licensure is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain licenses in additional states as requested by Legion.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed intake assessments covering presenting symptoms, psychiatric and medical history, treatment response, medication history, substance use, psychosocial factors, mental status, and safety risks.
  • Establish or clarify diagnoses and develop practical, individualized treatment plans grounded in safe, evidence-based clinical pathways.
  • Determine when a patient can appropriately transition to PMHNP-led care and provide a complete, timely handoff that supports continuity.
  • Maintain a small caseload of patients whose complexity, acuity, risk, or treatment resistance warrants continued psychiatrist involvement.
  • Partner with APPs on complex diagnostic, medication, safety, treatment-response, and acuity questions, with renewed psychiatrist involvement when clinically appropriate.
  • Prescribe medications through telehealth—including Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substances when clinically appropriate and legally permitted—in accordance with federal and state law, DEA requirements, applicable telemedicine regulations, and Legion’s evidence-based clinical pathways.
  • Provide clinical guidance, feedback, mentorship, and case-based support to PMHNPs and other advanced practice providers.
  • Work effectively with clinicians, operations, patient support, pharmacy coordination, and other teams to deliver safe and coordinated care.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, diagnostic reasoning, treatment plans, prescriptions, care transitions, consultations, and follow-up visits.
  • Participate in case reviews and clinical discussions and help strengthen Legion’s care pathways, prescribing protocols, and quality standards.
