About The Position

The Navajo Area Indian Health Service (NAIHS) is seeking a Child/Adolescent Psychiatrist to perform outpatient psychiatry duties and manage identified needs. This role involves providing psychiatric assessments, prescribing psychotropic medications, and delivering psychiatric treatment for patients. The psychiatrist will also offer consultation and education to clinical medical and mental health staff regarding patient assessment and treatment, as well as overall mental health issues. Responsibilities include recording patient contacts in the facility medical record according to established policies. The position does not require weekend, holiday, overtime, or on-call responsibilities. Sensitivity to cross-cultural and language differences is important, and the ability to work through interpreters for non-English speaking patients is necessary. Adherence to facility information technology system security policies and procedures is also required. This role is located within the Gallup Indian Service Unit, Crownpoint Indian Service Unit, and Shiprock Indian Service Unit.

Requirements

  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree.
  • Shall have board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both General and Child & Adolescent psychiatry.
  • Must have experience providing telepsychiatry services.
  • Must have a full, permanent and unrestricted license in any state.
  • Must have a federal DEA number.
  • Should be able to show sensitivity to cross-cultural and language differences and be able to work through interpreters as necessary for non-English speaking patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform outpatient psychiatry duties and manage needs identified.
  • Provide psychiatric assessments, prescribe psychotropic medications, and provide psychiatric treatment for psychiatric patients.
  • Provide consultation and education for clinical medical and mental health staff regarding assessment and treatment of specific patients and overall mental health issues, as appropriate.
  • Record patient contacts in the facility medical record following established policies for documentation.
  • Adhere to facility information technology system security policies and procedures.
