About The Position

The Psychiatric Technician - Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) Emergency Department (ED) PRN role involves observing, reporting, and documenting patient behavior changes to the charge nurse. The technician will interact therapeutically with patients, assist in and participate in social and recreational activities, group therapy, and patient teaching groups. They are expected to use CPI techniques appropriately, make rounds on assigned patients at least every half hour, and respond to patients with empathy while maintaining their dignity and confidentiality. The role also includes participation in unit-based process improvement activities and committees, and potentially on-call duties. All mandatory training as per facility policy is required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Good therapeutic communication skills required.
  • CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date.
  • BLS required per policy guidelines.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in unit-based committees.
  • May include on-call duties as requested by administration.
  • Completes all mandatory training as per facility policy.
