Psychiatric Technician - Atrium Health Charlotte Behavioral Health Float Pool Psychiatric Adult 1 South Unit FT Nights
About The Position
This is a full-time Psychiatric Technician position within the Atrium Health Charlotte Behavioral Health Float Pool, specifically for the Psychiatric Adult 1 South Unit. The role involves working 36 hours per week on night shifts (7p-7a). The Psychiatric Technician will observe, report, and document patient behavior changes, interact therapeutically with patients, and assist in social and recreational activities and group therapy. The position requires the use of CPI techniques, regular patient rounds, flexibility, and empathetic patient care while maintaining dignity and confidentiality. Participation in unit-based process improvement, committees, and potential on-call duties are also expected, along with completing all mandatory training.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Good therapeutic communication skills required.
- CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date.
- BLS required per policy guidelines.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Responsibilities
- Observes, reports, and documents signs and symptoms or changes in patient behavior to charge nurse.
- Interacts with patients therapeutically.
- Assists, initiates, and participates in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
- Uses CPI techniques appropriately.
- Makes rounds on assigned patients at least every half hour during shift.
- Demonstrates flexibility in changing workload.
- Responds to patients with empathy, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
- Participates in unit-based process improvement activities.
- Participates in unit-based committees.
- May include on-call duties as requested by administration.
- Completes all mandatory training as per facility policy.
