The Psychiatric Technician assists, monitors, and/or maintains patient activities of daily living (ADL's). This role orients patients and their families/significant others to the unit and hospital. The Psychiatric Technician escorts patients to various locations, supervising and managing their behaviors as required. They perform vital signs, receive direction from the RN, and communicate significant or unusual occurrences in patient behavior. Documentation of pertinent observations/occurrences in the patient's medical records is required. The role involves defusing and reporting crisis situations, intervening when appropriate, and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment by assisting with groups, setting limits on patients, and following established safety and risk management policies and procedures. Patient rounding at designated intervals and appropriate documentation are also key responsibilities.
