Psychiatric Technician - Adult Inpatient
About The Position
The Psychiatric Technician assists nurses in observing and monitoring patients’ behavior and physical condition under supervision and according to departmental policies and procedures. The role includes performing basic patient care tasks, such as helping patients with personal hygiene and daily living activities as delegated and in accordance with nursing care plans and applicable policies. The technician establishes therapeutic relationships with patients, encourages participation in recreational and other therapeutic activities, and helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. The position is in the Adult Inpatient setting at the Institute of Living, part of Hartford HealthCare.
Requirements
- High school graduate.
- Strong communication skills.
- Successfully complete CPR training within 3 months of hire.
- Successfully complete crisis intervention training within 3 months of hire.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience in a psychiatric-mental health setting or a medical-surgical health care setting.
- For work with a specialty population, such as geriatrics or children and adolescents, previous experience with that population.
