The Kings County Behavioral Health Administration is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Psychiatric Technician I/II. Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience providing medication support to behavioral health clients at a level equivalent to a Psychiatric Technician I in Kings County (for Level II).
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
  • Possession of a valid Psychiatric Technician licensure issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • OR Possession of a valid Vocational Nurse licensure issued by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation and fingerprint check.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours as required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of technical psychiatric nursing care duties in support of behavioral health clients and professional psychiatric staff, including physical assessments, medication administration, and coordinating various services.
  • Receives clients for scheduled psychiatry appointments; takes and records vital signs, physical condition, and behaviors.
  • Assists clients with connecting to psychiatrists for scheduled virtual appointments and remains with clients during appointments as requested.
  • Provides medication management services under the direction of clinical staff, ensuring proper acquisition and administration of medication.
  • Educates clients, families, and/or staff on medication use, including symptoms, reactions, and side effects.
  • Assists and observes clients self-dispense medication and administers scheduled injections.
  • Conducts medication checks to assess client management capabilities and takes appropriate action if a client poses a danger.
  • Observes, evaluates, records, and reports changes in client condition to professional staff.
  • Collaborates with clinical staff to process new prescriptions and refills, works with insurance companies for approvals, and writes medical justifications.
  • Provides information and updates on medication changes, concerns, and side effects as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Performs crisis intervention, evaluates client behavior stability, provides support, and coordinates appropriate care services.
  • Maintains inventory of medications and medical supplies, adhering to purchasing policies.
  • Collaborates and consults with psychiatrists, pharmacists, registered nurses, clinicians, and other service providers regarding client care.
  • Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, trainings, and staff development activities.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed documentation of all client care activities and services for billing purposes.
  • Provides training to subordinate and less experienced staff and volunteers as assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
