About The Position

Outpatient Behavioral Health Psychiatric Technician provides direct patient care and clinician support in adult, child, & adolescent ambulatory behavioral health higher level of care programs that include: Partial Hospital, Intensive Outpatient, and Extended Day Treatment. Technicians implement individual behavior plans for patients, facilitate skill-based groups to improve self-control, distress tolerance, and social skills. Technicians are also responsible for monitoring/supervising of patients in the program milieu during clinical group, therapeutic activities, restroom/meal breaks; movement of individuals/groups throughout the program setting; and during transportation related activities involving waiting for transportation or supervising patients on vans while being driven to/from program.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or extensive work experience in behavioral health settings
  • One year of experience in a behavioral health, residential, or school setting
  • CPI certification

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral health or related field is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to participants in a developmentally appropriate manner that creates a safe, trauma free, accepting therapeutic environment.
  • Provides case management support for patients as assigned by the clinical team. Activities include collateral contacts related to: insurance; entitlements; school and agency schedules; setting up of appointments; gathering of collateral medical/psychiatric records; routine non-clinical correspondence; and miscellaneous contact with family members and community providers.
  • Prepares clinical rooms for daily program that includes setting-up and breaking down of furniture and group equipment/materials for psycho-education groups. Co-facilitate psychoeducation groups to support primary clinicians by taking attendance, documenting the group activity, assisting with behavioral management and utilizing treatment plan interventions for patients disrupting group process.
  • Monitors patient behavior at all times to assure safety for patients & colleagues throughout the program including: arrival/departures; meals/snack times; bathroom breaks; moving between clinical offices; rest breaks; outdoor activities; offsite field trips; and while transporting patients to and from program. Responds to all patient safety concerns following established program policy & standard work.
  • Completes all assigned documentation responsibilities for collateral contacts and psychoeducation/life skill groups that meets established Joint Commission, state regulatory and corporate compliance criteria.
  • Attend and participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, staff development meetings, and mandatory department/hospital meetings. Follow all established department and hospital policies and procedures. Complete continuing education requirements as required by the unit and hospital.
