About The Position

At Resources for Human Development (RHD), we are building a team of compassionate professionals dedicated to helping individuals live fulfilling and independent lives. RHD has over 56 years of experience providing innovative services to empower people of all abilities. Our RHD Glassport LTSR is a long-term structured residential program for adult males (18-65) in Allegheny County diagnosed with serious mental illness and substance use disorder, or dually diagnosed with an intellectual disability, and potentially a forensic history. Requirements

  • HS diploma/ GED minimum, bachelor's preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 months direct care experience with clients with mental health, substance abuse or forensic issues.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • State police clearance.
  • Pre-employment physical, TB and Hep B screening.
  • Knowledge of Psychiatric Rehabilitation principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with staff and participants.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Able to engage residents in effective, therapeutic, and recovery-oriented interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the psychiatric rehabilitation specialist to assist participants in choosing, acquiring, and maintaining skills using skills-based and strength-based techniques.
  • Collaborate with program therapists, psychiatric rehabilitation facilitator, and residents to implement psychiatric rehabilitation plans of care.
  • Increase client skill levels through group facilitation and individualized psych rehab activities.
  • Promote principles of recovery and psychiatric rehabilitation with participants, providers, and stakeholders.
  • Provide skill-building in recovery management, identification of personal strengths/assets, development of strength-based recovery plans/goals, and strategies to meet goals.
  • Assist in identifying or re-connecting to natural supports, including peer recovery supports and self-help groups.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments as needed.
  • Assist with accessing and navigating the mental health and/or D&A service system.
  • Assist with accessing and navigating mental health court, Adult Probation, Justice Related Services, and the legal system.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and continuing care (aftercare) meetings as requested.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in schedule to meet participant needs.
  • Advocate for the member's community needs, medical, and behavioral health needs.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing to identify member's strengths, needs, motivation, triggers, and goals.
  • Bridge the gap between physical health care and behavioral health treatment.
  • Provide telephonic assistance to members and family members concerning recovery tools and resources.
  • Empower members to self-advocate and follow through with treatment (making and attending appointments, setting goals, community networking).
  • Utilize electronic health records to document and bill for services.
