About The Position

The Psychiatric Registered Nurse is a clinical staff member of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, a community-based multidisciplinary treatment team located in Schenectady, NY. The service provision is designed to promote recovery by improving psychiatric symptoms, preventing relapses, teaching skills, and providing direct assistance and securing necessary community resources. These services may occur in the home, community, or office.

Requirements

  • Licensed Registered Professional Nurse by New York State.
  • Must have a strong commitment to the rights and ability of each person with a mental illness to make their own decisions and choices, live in the community, work, and have access to continuous support and services to enhance wellness.
  • Must be able to effectively work with all people and demonstrate skills and competence to establish supportive and trusting relationships with all individuals.
  • Must uphold individuals’ rights and personal preferences in treatment and treat everyone with respect and dignity. Continuously acting as a guest in individuals’ homes and family homes, is courteous, polite and an active listener.
  • Valid and insurable NYS driver's license.
  • Must have your own vehicle to use for business purposes.
  • Must be medically able to drive.
  • Must be an approved driver.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
  • Three years’ experience in a psychiatric setting, with at least one year’s experience in an outpatient setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct person-centered comprehensive health assessments.
  • Develop and implement strength-based treatment plans that are responsive to client needs and facilitate achievement of goals on an as needed basis.
  • Oversee all aspects of medication management in compliance with agency procedures and protocols. This includes administration of injectable medications, managing Clozaril protocols, ordering of medication, overseeing processes for medication distribution, utilizing a medication step system towards client self-management, and managing all aspects of the medication room.
  • Develop and maintain trusting and supportive relationships with clients, families, and community providers. All service provisions shall be judgement free, non-confrontational, yet honest, open, and delivered in a professional, caring, supportive, and growth producing manner.
  • Provide support, treatment, case management, community advocacy, and linkage services, per the treatment plan. Complete required documentation of interventions as well as client’s responses and outcomes.
  • Readily respond to all crisis situations and urgent needs using sound clinical judgement in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the individual. Provide on-call crisis intervention services on a rotating schedule amongst team members. Always act to ensure client’s safety, readily assess needs, provide support, and intervene immediately as needed.
  • Provide transportation to clients when necessary, using agency vehicles.
  • Travel to all levels of the facility in a safe and reasonable time frame.
  • Attend client/member meetings in the community and meetings outside the office/program using personal vehicle.
