About The Position

The Psychiatric Provider delivers psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management services for incarcerated individuals. As clinically indicated and within licensed scope, this role may also provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) services for substance use disorders. The Psychiatric Provider exercises independent clinical judgment while collaborating with medical, nursing, behavioral health, and MAT program staff.

Requirements

  • Active New Mexico license as: MD/DO Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances, as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments.
  • Diagnose mental health disorders and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Prescribe, adjust, and monitor psychotropic medications.
  • Participate in suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and restrictive housing evaluations.
  • Provide consultative support to medical, nursing, behavioral health, and custody staff.
  • Document all psychiatric encounters, treatment decisions, and follow-up care in the medical record.
  • Conduct substance use disorder evaluations when referred or when co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders are identified.
  • Prescribe and manage FDA-approved MAT medications in accordance with federal and state law.
  • Monitor patient response, adherence, side effects, and clinical stability related to MAT.
  • Coordinate MAT care with counseling, case management, nursing, and medical providers.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary MAT case conferences and CQI activities.
  • Support discharge planning and continuity-of-care coordination for patients receiving MAT.
  • Participate in CQI activities, peer review, mortality reviews, and case conferences.
  • Comply with all documentation, confidentiality, and incident reporting requirements.
  • Adhere to Thrive Medical Services policies, NCCHC standards, and applicable laws and regulations.
