About The Position

The psychiatric provider will provide behavioral health care services to both children and adults in an integrated care center. This role involves providing outpatient care to patients experiencing changes or declines in mental status. The provider will work independently within a medical or behavioral health team, with approved clinical privileges. They will participate in an interdisciplinary team offering primary care, dental, and behavioral health services. Responsibilities include performing patient histories and physicals, risk factor assessments, ordering diagnostic tests, and attending consultations. The provider will prescribe medications according to clinic policy and state regulations, and consult with physicians on cases outside their scope of practice. They will maintain patient data in medical records, provide healthcare education to patients and families, and ensure smooth communication with other health professionals. Additionally, the role involves providing consultation to nursing and medical staff for holistic patient care improvement and clinically relevant supervision to other psychiatric providers and social workers, including completing annual employee evaluations and managing corrective actions with the Chief Clinical Officer. The provider will also offer onsite behavioral health guidance to staff in the Chief Clinical Officer's absence.

Requirements

  • Psychiatric nurse practitioner
  • Masters or Doctorate degree or graduated from accredited physician assistant program with at minimum 3 years post graduate experience in psychiatry
  • Self-disciplined, energetic, passionate, innovative
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership and organizational skills essential
  • Computer literate preferred
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of medical office practices, procedures and equipment
  • Knowledge of problem-oriented record keeping
  • Correct English usage, spelling and grammar
  • Confidence to communicate and outreach to other community healthcare organizations and personnel
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Must possess nurse practitioner registration in NYS, which must be unrestricted, current, complete, and active

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual especially in Spanish is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Providing outpatient care to patients showing a change or decline in mental status
  • Working independently with other members of the medical or behavioral health team
  • Taking part in an interdisciplinary team that provides primary care, dental and behavioral health care
  • Performing patient histories and physicals, risk factor assessment, ordering of therapeutic and diagnostic tests; and attend to consultations and appointments
  • Prescribing medications following the clinic's policy and relevant regulations of the State
  • Consulting with physicians on cases that are beyond the scope of qualification of PMHNP
  • Putting all relevant patient data in medical records and case presentations
  • Formulating, executing and reviewing healthcare education delivered to patients and families for disease prevention
  • Ensuring smooth communication with other health professionals for effective delivery of clinic service to patients
  • Providing consultation to the clinic's nursing and medical staff for improvement in holistically treating the whole patient
  • Providing clinically relevant supervision to other psychiatric providers and social workers
  • Completing staff employee evaluations, at minimum once yearly
  • Managing corrective actions with Chief Clinical Officer as needed
  • Providing onsite behavioral health guidance to all staff in the absence of the Chief Clinical Officer
