About The Position

The Recovery Village Salem Drug, Alcohol and Mental Health Rehab Center is seeking a compassionate PRN and/or Fulltime Psychiatric & Physician Assistant to join their team. This facility offers expert treatment for addiction and mental health disorders, believing that any adult facing these challenges can begin their path to recovery. The accredited addiction treatment facility offers a wide range of rehab programs in a safe and supportive environment, with compassionate care provided by experienced medical and clinical professionals. Located in Salem, Oregon, the facility combines medical expertise with recreational therapies and mental health services. Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited Master’s Program or higher. (PA’s that did not have Master’s Programs because they may not have been offered can be considered.)
  • Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of practice
  • Must have a DEA to prescribe controlled medications
  • Must have had training on Buprenorphine Prescribing as outlined by the DEA.
  • DEA-authorized prescribers will be required to demonstrate that they have completed at least eight (8) hours of educational training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders.
  • Depending on the state practicing, may need a protocol agreement to be completed by the PA and Medical Director.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Addiction Medicine/ Primary Behavioral Health preferred.
  • Familiarity with JCAHO and other indicated healthcare standards is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASAM/ ASAM Criteria and other indicated healthcare standards is preferred.
  • Communication skills to relate to all levels of facility staff.
  • Application of Continuous Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Team philosophy and ability to develop and apply organizational strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Provides medical services/ patient care to patients admitted to ARS facilities and throughout treatment within the continuum of care.
  • Supports and follows the policies, rules, and regulations of the facility as well as the standards of State and Federal regulations.
  • Provides excellent medical care with the ARS philosophy outlined by the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Director, including knowledge of medications, assessment for medication complications and detoxification protocols, and prescribing medications.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using the electronic health record with all required documentation, ensuring compliance with all company policies and procedures, state regulation, Joint Commission standards and Medical Needs Criteria.
  • Completes and authenticates electronic record documents in a timely manner per policy, including Admission History and Physical Evaluation, Medical Progress Notes, Discharge Summary, Peer to Peer Form, Medication and ancillary orders, Patient Allergies, Diagnosis/ update diagnosis, laboratory Data interpretation and documentation, and HIV/STD results.
  • Understands ASAM criteria and Medical Needs Criteria and will document decision making accordingly.
  • Screens for Substance Use Disorders (SUD) including: psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms.
  • Screens for pain and understands treatment strategies for pain including pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches, reflecting an individualized approach based on the individual’s current presentation, medical judgment and the risks and benefits associated with strategies.
  • Screens for nutrition deficiencies and makes interventions or refers for a nutrition consultation as appropriate.
  • Reviews physical examination reports and medical screening results conducted off-site for the preadmissions process or for other medical concerns, to ensure that the client's medical needs are considered and addressed in the development of the treatment plan and throughout treatment.
  • Understands and communicates On-Call responsibilities, providing contact and back-up numbers, being responsive and available not only when assigned on-call duties, but as backup when medical provider/Medical Director on-call is unavailable. When on call, will be within one hour of the facility in case of an emergency that requires going to facility.
  • Implements plans for Performance Improvement as needed.
  • With the Medical Director, develops cost-effective methods to provide medically necessary therapeutic services.
  • Assists in formulating and supporting the highest standards of patient care.
  • With the Medical Director, supervises all Level of Care changes and provides peer reviews when required.
  • Provides supervision/ support to Physician Assistants as required.
  • Understands and abides by all safety/risk, infection control, and other guidelines, as required.
  • If Non-Exempt - turns in time sheets/ expenses to the Medical Director/Designee at the designated time frames.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
