About The Position

Provides telephone prescription renewal services as directed by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner, responds to client questions regarding medications, and coordinates indigent medication services for mental health clients served through the Watertown office.

Requirements

  • Current South Dakota LPN or RN license required.
  • Must reside within 60 miles of Watertown to ensure a timely response to crisis situations while serving on-call.
  • This position requires access to Electronic Personal Health Information (EPHI).
  • Current HSA Policies and Procedures apply.

  • Psychiatric nursing experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Returns phone calls to clients with questions regarding prescriptions or medication side effects, as directed by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner.
  • Prepares prescription renewals for review and signature by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner based on relevant clinical information documented in the medical record.
  • Contacts pharmacies to communicate prescription refill and renewal information.
  • Coordinates scheduling of appropriate appointments or consults with the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner regarding treatment options and relays necessary information to clients and pharmacies.
  • Coordinates the distribution, documentation, reordering, and inventory of medication samples and meets with pharmaceutical representatives as needed.
  • Follows standard operating procedures for the indigent medication program, including utilizing the Indicare site and pharmaceutical company applications.
  • Determines initial eligibility for the indigent medication program and processes applications.
  • Assists with the distribution of medication samples and indigent medications.
  • Maintains accurate records of clients receiving indigent medications, including renewal dates, medications, and dosage information.
  • Completes prescription documentation as directed by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner.
  • Administers intramuscular (IM) medications as ordered.
  • Performs blood draws as ordered by the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner.
  • Reports laboratory findings to the Certified Nurse Practitioner and/or Mid-Level Practitioner.
  • Maintains blood draw logs for billing purposes.
  • Arranges courier pickup of laboratory specimens when necessary.
  • Supervises the work of the LPN/Medical Assistant (MA) to ensure duties are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates the proper disposal of medical waste and sharps containers.
  • Performs tuberculosis (TB) testing for new hires, as applicable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that are consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
