About The Position

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will provide ethical, culturally competent, trauma-sensitive, recovery-oriented, and evidence-based professional psychiatric services to patients. This role involves coordinating care with other team members, working collaboratively within a patient-centered medical home model, and adhering to all Sunset Health policies, federal and state regulations, and standards of practice. The position also includes managing psychiatric support personnel, completing documentation, maintaining professional knowledge through continuing education, participating in meetings and committees, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, the role involves supporting team efforts in patient self-management and potentially traveling to other clinic sites.

  • Scope of privileges approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Competence in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of behavioral health disorders.
  • Ability to prescribe, recommend, or discontinue treatment and/or medication within established Center guidelines.
  • Ability to examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests.
  • Ability to promote patient self-management and behavior change.
  • Ability to provide health education.
  • Ability to examine, obtain, and update medical and mental health histories.
  • Ability to design/participate in the development of individualized treatment plans.
  • Ability to supervise and collaborate with management as appropriate and applicable.
  • Ability to complete forms and documentation, including patient records and insurance forms.
  • Participating on an ongoing basis in a Continuing Medical Education Program.
  • Attending Provider and PCMH Meetings.
  • Serving on committees, as assigned.
  • Participating in the Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Program.
  • Participating in peer review activities as directed.
  • Advising management on performance deficiencies of behavioral health providers and clinical auxiliary personnel.
  • Providing training to care team members and students, as needed.
  • Supporting care team efforts in patients/families/caregivers’ self-management, self-efficacy, and behavior change.
  • Traveling to other clinic sites to provide coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Providing ethical, culturally competent, trauma-sensitive, recovery-oriented, evidence-based professional psychiatric services to patients within the scope of privileges approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Providing coordination of care in collaboration with other care team members.
  • Working with the physician as a member of the patient-centered medical home care team.
  • Following all procedures and protocols as per Sunset Health’s policies, federal and state regulations, and standard of practice.
  • Establishing rapport with patients and others in a position to understand care requirements.
  • Demonstrating competence in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of behavioral health disorders.
  • Prescribing, recommending, or discontinuing treatment and/or medication within established Center guidelines to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
  • Examining or ordering laboratory or diagnostic tests for patient to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorders.
  • Promoting patient self-management and behavior change.
  • Providing health education.
  • Examining, obtaining, and updating medical and mental health histories.
  • Designing/participating in the development of individualized treatment plans, incorporating best and leading practices into treatment interventions.
  • Managing psychiatric support personnel by supervising and collaborating with management as appropriate and applicable.
  • Providing timely and accurate historical reference by completing forms and documentation, including patient records and insurance forms.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by participating on an ongoing basis in a Continuing Medical Education Program.
  • Keeping informed by attending Provider and PCMH Meetings, and serving on committees, as assigned.
  • Ensuring quality of care by participating in the Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Program.
  • Participating in peer review activities as directed and advising management on performance deficiencies of behavioral health providers and clinical auxiliary personnel.
  • Accomplishing related results, as needed.
