About The Position

Under the affiliation of a physician, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides services within the scope of their license and certification, adhering to professional standards. This role involves meeting specific contact requirements with clients, including conducting medical evaluations, leading wellness and self-management groups, and providing psychoeducation to enhance participants' understanding and management of specific disorders. The position is part of a community-based clinic offering a professional and welcoming environment, focusing on psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological therapy, individual, group, and family therapy, crisis intervention, medication management, and case management. The approach emphasizes wellness, recovery, trauma-informed care, and physical-behavioral health integration.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • New York State Nurse Practitioner License and Current Registration
  • 1 year experience as Nurse Practitioner required
  • Current CPR (BLS), First Aid
  • DEA registration
  • ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center) Certification
  • Apply for and maintain valid NPI number
  • Must receive (Medication Administration Training) & become MAT certified within first 3 months of employment
  • Possess the skills to appropriately assess/de-escalate/intervene in crisis
  • Ability to work flexible hours, according to the needs of program operation.

Responsibilities

  • Prescribe and/or administer medication, including injectable and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT Services), after reviewing the appropriateness of the existing medication regimen through medication record review and consultation with the client and staff.
  • Monitor the effects of medication on clients’ mental and physical health, including measuring weight, height, and blood pressure for clients ages 5 and older participating in substance abuse programs and mental health clinics.
  • Document prescriptions, interventions, weight, height, and blood pressure upon every visit.
  • Follow up on referrals made on behalf of the participant and respond in a timely and professional manner, collaborating effectively to ensure high levels of service provision.
  • Participate in the development of new service initiatives, including research, analysis, and preparation of written reports.
  • Participate in all CCNS CQI and QA projects.
  • Track and maintain paperwork for special programs, such as City funded children’s immunization and flu shots.
  • Provide and/or oversee supervision of staff and graduate students.
  • Work collaboratively with the Psychiatrist and treatment team, functioning as a vital part of an interdisciplinary team environment.
