About The Position

Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183-bed acute care and residential facility that has been providing behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents for over 30 years. The facility offers acute programs, adolescent residential programs, and programs for active duty military. The serene, nature-like setting on 25 acres aims to provide a sense of calm and peace for patients. The hospital is located in Petersburg, Virginia, 20 minutes south of Richmond and 50 minutes north of North Carolina. A new opening exists for a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) who will play a crucial role in managing and improving the lives of patients with a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, substance use issues, grief, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and coping deficits. NPs have the opportunity to work in diverse settings such as hospitals, outpatient clinics, private practices, and community health centers. Performs other duties as assigned. Hours will vary, and applicants need to have flexibility with their availability.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (RN) in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • Education, experience and/or training in working with patient population of unit of assignment is required either prior to employment or during an initial employment period
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Basic clerical skills
  • Basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning
