About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join their team of medical professionals in the Mesa County Jail in Grand Junction, Colorado. This is a PRN (as needed) position. As a Correctional Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will work under the supervision of a psychiatrist, alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals, to provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for the facility residents. This unique position allows you to make a difference to a diverse population of patients with complex mental health needs within a controlled environment where security is a top priority.

Requirements

  • Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in Colorado.
  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in Colorado.
  • A current DEA registration in State.
  • Must possess an active BLS/CPR Certification (AHA preferred).
  • Experience with underserved and marginalized populations, including those with mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse individuals, including other medical professionals and correctional staff.
  • Must possess strong written communication and verbal skills and have strong computer skills.
  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnosing mental health conditions to facility residents that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population.
  • Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with psychiatric disorders.
  • Medication management including prescribing, adjusting and discontinuing medication as needed.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records, including assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Responding to psychiatric emergencies, providing immediate interventions and safety protocols within the facility.
  • Coordinating, leading and participating in educational training activities related to mental health care.
  • Ensuring compliance with State and Federal mandates and regulations, including court mandates and standards.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including correctional staff, psychologists, social workers and other medical professionals to develop and implement treatment plans and ensuring staff are responsive to patients’ needs.
