Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant
About The Position
VitalCore Health Strategies is hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant at Woodland Correctional Center in Whitmore Lake, Michigan. The role provides comprehensive psychiatric care to a diverse patient population in a correctional setting. The clinician works with a multidisciplinary team—including psychiatrists, psychologists, medical doctors, and correctional staff—to develop and implement individualized treatment plans addressing complex mental health needs. The position calls for a compassionate, resilient, and skilled professional able to provide mental health support in this setting.
Requirements
- Must be a licensed Nurse Practitioner in the state of employment.
- Must demonstrate clinical competence and leadership abilities, including decision-making, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical nursing practice in a behavioral health setting.
Nice To Haves
- Correctional experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide consultations and assessments to manage and stabilize emergent problems.
- Consult with and follow up with behavioral health staff to determine the need for psychotropic medication.
- Review treatment plans for patients housed on behavioral health observation units and patients receiving medication.
- Participate in case conferences and treatment planning for patients receiving or being considered for behavioral health treatment.
- Provide behavioral health evaluations, assessments, and follow-up care.
- Consult collaboratively with behavioral health staff regarding patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Participate in treatment modalities as required by the behavioral health service.
- Participate in behavioral health and medical rounds as assigned.
- Assign tasks to team members as needed.
- Conduct group sessions on behavioral health observation units, including medication compliance groups.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervising Psychiatrist.
- Maintain all required credentials, including CPR certification.
- Attend required training and meetings.
