About The Position

As a Float Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Sheppard Pratt, this role has the opportunity to work across a diverse continuum of behavioral health services on both campuses, expanding your clinical expertise while making a meaningful impact on patients of all ages. The Float NP will collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary teams across 6 child and adolescent inpatient units, 2 child and adolescent day hospitals, 13 adult inpatient units, and 2 adult day hospitals, providing psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning for individuals experiencing acute behavioral health challenges. This role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys flexibility, values professional growth, and thrives in dynamic care environments. This position includes a schedule requirement of working 10 weekends and 2 holidays annually.

Requirements

  • Active Maryland Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license.
  • Maryland Controlled Substances Registration with valid DEA Certificate.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner experience in an acute inpatient psychiatric setting required, with experience treating child, adolescent, and adult populations.

Responsibilities

  • Complete psychiatric evaluations, admission physicals, and diagnostic assessments.
  • Initiate and coordinate individualized treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, ordering tests and adjusting treatment as needed.
  • Provide individual and group therapy to support patient progress.
  • Monitor patient outcomes, document care accurately, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of excellence in care.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior staff, modeling best practices and supporting professional growth.
