About The Position

The University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) is launching a new one-year postgraduate specialty training program for recent graduates of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) programs. This program focuses on developing advanced skills in acute psychiatric care through 80% clinical training and 20% didactic learning. Fellows will work with patients experiencing serious mental illnesses, including psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders, gaining hands-on experience within the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) team at Strong Memorial Hospital. Additional rotations in Inpatient Psychiatry and the Psychiatric Consult Liaison Service will enhance the learning experience. The program offers mentorship and supervision from experienced psychiatric providers in a supportive environment designed to foster professional and personal growth. Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program.
  • Hold New York State licensure as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Hold national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing.
  • Active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing.
  • Current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.
  • Demonstrate clinical competence.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills.
  • Computer competence.
  • Active desire to learn.
  • Strong interest in working with patients experiencing serious mental illness in acute care settings.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development in emergency psychiatry.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced skills in acute psychiatric care.
  • Work with patients experiencing serious mental illnesses, including psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and personality disorders.
  • Gain hands-on experience as part of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) team.
  • Participate in specialty rotations in other settings, such as Inpatient Psychiatry and the Psychiatric Consult Liaison Service.
  • Receive mentorship and supervision from experienced psychiatric providers.
  • Participate in select education alongside Psychiatry Residents.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary educational experiences.
